Foreign capital
Białystok's location in this part of Europe, as well as the city's potential, make it an object of interest for local and foreign investors. The following foreign companies have already invested here:
- NIBE Industrial AB from Sweden is a strategic partner of Białystok's "Biawar" sp.z o.o.
- Philips Domestic Appliances and Personal Care, Schuttersveld Holding NV has signed a contract with Biazet S.A. for assembling white household appliances. The Dutch company is a producer and supplier of plastic components for Philips.
- German brewery concern Binding Brauerei from Frankfurt is the owner of considerable number of shares in the "Dojlidy" Brewery sp. z o.o.
- Orkla Media Newspapers from Norway owns shares in the local daily newspapers: "Kurier Poranny" and "Gazeta Współczesna". Orkla Media has built a modern printing-house, which prints "Kurier Poranny". The company is a potentate on the press market and has purchased, among other titles, the following dailies: Rzeczpospolita, Wieczór Wrocławia, Głos Pomorza.
- September 1998 saw the opening of Makro Cash and Carry in Białystok. The company has invested 20 mln $ in Bialystok and, among other things, has built a hall of an area of 11 877 m2.
- GBS Polska represented by Metro AG has purchased more than 7 hectares of land in the district of Zielone Wzgórza, where it intends to build a shopping centre.
- The American company Mc Donald's has opened two restaurants in Białystok.
- Petrol stations were built by the following companies: Statoil (2 stations - ul. Popiełuszki and Aleja Jana Pawła II); Shell (2 stations - ul. 1000 - lecia PP and ul. Składowa); British Petroleum - BP (ul. Kopernika).
- Auchan has built a mall with a 8000 m2 market area.
- Rosti (Polska) Sp. z o.o. is a company belonging to the Dutch concern A.P.Moller. The basic activity of the firm is the manufacturing of synthetic components for the assembly of end products. Rosti cooperates with international companies in the field of telecommunication, electronics, medical appliances, and household appliances.
- A French holding Altrad Technologies has purchased shares of the Spomasz Białystok company, where it is currently the owner of the ma-jor block of shares. Altrad Technologies is a company that specialises in the production of concrete mixers and steel constructions.
