Białystok is the capital of Podlaskie Province (Podlaskie Voivodeship) and the largest city of North - Eastern Poland. It is the administrative, cultural, economic and educational centre of the region. Its close location to the Eastern border of the European Union on the routes leading from the East to the West makes both economic and social development easier. The favourable economic environment is also provided by the tax allowances offered for investors and the pro - investment policy of the municipal authorities, thank to which about 15% of the budget is spent on local investments. Białystok is a city of considerable economic potentials, inhabited by many qualified professionals. In 17 institutions of higher education there are about 50 thousand students.
